HUMAN RIGHTS UNIT'S SEMINAR ON EMPLOYMENT AND HOUSING - Post-Tribune (IN)

The East Chicago Human Rights Commission will sponsor an employment and housing seminar in commemoration of its 40-year anniversary. The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riley Park Pavilion, 1005 W. Chicago Ave. City Court Judge Del Marae Williams will be keynote speaker.

Topics will include affirmative action in the workplace, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, drugs and alcohol in the workplace, Fair Housing Amendment Act of 1988, and legal and legislative updates.

There is no charge but reservations are required. Further information is available by calling the commission at 391-8477.

GUEST SPEAKERS AT SENIOR CITIZENS EVENT

Metro Corps of Gary's Older American Congress will be hosting its annual Senior Citizen's May Day program on May 10.

'Bite Into A Healthy Life Style' is the theme of the 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. program to be held at the Genesis Convention Center, 1 North Genesis Plaza.

The program will feature guest speakers and display booths by Desnick Eye Clinic and the Methodist Hospitals.

Gary Mayor Thomas V. Barnes will present the Older American Proclamation and the Marine Corps will perform the posting of colors.

Transportation will be provided by Metro Corps. For additional information, call the Community Services Department at 886-3155.

TRINITY LUTHERAN SCHOOL SETS SIGNUP

Registration for classes at Trinity Lutheran School in Hobart is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. April 22 to April 26.

For preschool, children must be 3 by May 1. Preschool classes meet from 8:40 to 11 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays. For prekindergarten, children must be 4 by June 1. Prekindergarten classes are scheduled from 8:40 to 11:10 a.m. Mondays through Wednesdays.

To enroll in kindergarten, children must be 5 by July 1. Kindergarten classes meet from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

More information about classes or the grade school, which has first through eighth grades, is available through the school office, 891 S. Linda St., or by calling 942-3147.

GARY NATIVE TO DISCUSS CIVIL RIGHTS LAW

Gary native Karen Freeman-Wilson, director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, will be the keynote speaker for the Gary YWCA's 71st Annual Dinner on Friday.

She will discuss proposed civil rights legislation and its effect on women at 5:30 p.m. at the Gary Career Center.

Tickets are $17.50 for adults, $15 for YWCA members and $12.50 for youth.

STEWART GUILD IS HOST WEDNESDAY

The Sallie W. Stewart Guild will host the Federation of Colored Women's Club's annual Mental Health program at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The program will be at the Leek-Wesson Neighborhood Center, 21st and Madison Street, Gary. Rise Ross, from the Mental Health Center, will be the afternoon speaker.

SALAD BAR/CARD PARTY TO HELP CHARITY

Whiting Emblem Club No. 354 will present its Salad Bar/Card and Bunco Party at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Whiting Elks Lodge (NU)1273, 1521 119th St.

Donation is $6. All proceeds benefit Emblem Club charities.
